AFTER THE OPERATION

An eye operation is a very delicate procedure and one must be careful during the post-operative person strongly recommended to remain indoors for 2 to 3 days after the operation.

WHAT TO DO:

1. Medcines must be used as a prescribed by the doctor and regularly.

Only one drop must be installed in the appropriate eye.

At least two minutes must lapse between dosages of the different eye drops.

2. The eye must be kept open during the day.

3. When sleeping the eye must be covered with the shield provided for 1 week.

It is better to wear dark glasses for at least a week to protect your eyes.

Try to sleep on the opposite side of the operated eye.

4. Always wash your hands before putting drops into the eye.

5. You may return to work if you are doing office or desk work.

SLIGHT DISCOMFORT: You may use pain tablets up to a maximum of 8 tablets a day. You may apply the lubricating gel provided as often as 6 times a day.

SLIGHT DISCHARGE: Eyelids can be cleansed gently with a mixture of 1 tablespoon of salt (not dissolved in 500ml boiling water, cooling water to just above room temperature). Do not rub the eye, press on it. If discharge continues, consult a doctor immediately.

You may experience a swollen red eye for a few days and the eye may turn red.

SMALL SPOTS AND SHADOWS IN FRONT OF EYES: This is not unusual and will disappear within a few days. If the spots or shadows are persistent for more than two days or constant (i.e not moving) consult your doctor immediately.

RED EYES: This is common and will disappear in 2 to 3 weeks.
