1. Your admission time is NOT the time of your operation – please keep the afternoon (Tuesdays or Thursdays) or day (Mondays) free. Clear your appointment schedule / roster for the day. Do not book any other appointments on the day of your surgery.

Please do not expect to finish at a specific time. Surgery and anaesthetic time is variable in each patient and you would need to exercise patience on the day of surgery. The doctors and nurses work efficiently and will try to get you done as quickly and safely as possible.

2. MEDICATION – Please take the medication on the day of surgery with a small sip of water except your diabetic medication. Do NOT take your oral diabetic medication or your insulin on the day of surgery. Stop eating and drinking if you are having a General anaesthetic – 6 hours prior to theatre. Therefore for Monday list – stop eating and drinking at 12pm Sunday night. For Tuesday / Thursday list – stop eating and drinking at 8am Tuesday/Thursday morning

3. You cannot drive yourself home after a general anaesthetic or sedation. Whoever you have designated to pick you up should be telephoned by yourself after you have come back to the wad as this time is not predictable.
